Depression

It sneaks it’s way into your life, as if it were already there.
Slowly, it brings you down with no explanation.
All of a sudden, you can’t remember the last time you could breathe.
It bogs you down like a ball and chain, dragging behind all your efforts to keep going.
It lingers for what feels like forever, with no sign of letting up.
It feels heavy on your chest, like you can’t get up in the morning, or even breathe.
All your body and mind want to do is sleep.
Your favorite things to do are just too much to even think about.
Everything is so heavy. You can’t bear to move a muscle, let alone blink.

Imagine days or weeks, or even months this way. Approximately 16.2 million adults in the United States alone suffer from depression, with millions more around the world.

Depression is not an excuse. It’s not laziness. It’s not lack of ambition or lack of goals.

Depression is an illness, something that makes us feel as though we’re fighting just to complete regular day to day tasks.

I myself suffer from depression, and I am medicated, and it still hits me from time to time. Medication does not cure depression, or any mental illness.

So please, cut us all some slack.
